Middlesex Police Chief Matthew P. Geist has announced the assignment of Detective Thomas Falk as School Resource Officer for Middlesex Borough’s Public Schools. By implementing the School Resource Officer program, the police department, in partnership with Middlesex Board of Education, aims to enhance school security by having a uniformed, law enforcement presence in the public schools and to provide the students and the faculty members with an easily accessible law enforcement resource. “Our young people are our most valued commodity and it makes perfect sense to invest in their safety, their security and their development.” said Chief Geist. The department’s School Resource Officer program, originally implemented in March of 1999, was discontinued due to staffing shortages. Chief Geist added, “Because of the support of our mayor and the governing body, we are able now to re-establish this valuable program.” Middlesex Mayor Ron DiMura commented, “We are pleased that we have the opportunity to provide a safer, more secure learning environment for our children.” An eleven year veteran of the police department and a certified Emergency Medical Technician, Detective Falk’s previous experience as a secondary school teacher provides him valuable experience and insight. Detective Falk is a decorated officer who boasts three Life Saving Awards among his many commendations. Chief Geist remarked, “Detective Falk’s impressive resume makes him uniquely qualified for this important role.” The school district is pleased to have a collegial and collaborative relationship with the local police department. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Linda Madison remarked, “The relationship between the Middlesex Police Department and the school district is critical to ensure our students are educated in a safe, secure learning environment. The addition of a School Resource Officer at the high school is a step forward and a credit to the Borough of Middlesex.”
