Middlesex Police make multiple arrests of Pharmacy Burglary Suspects

Chief Matthew P. Geist announced that two arrests were made on Thursday, March 23, 2023 in connection with a significant burglary that occurred at Boro Hall Pharmacy on February 28, 2023, with theft proceeds in the amount of $28,471.03. These arrests were the result of a joint investigation with the Cranford Police Department and the Manalapan Township Police Department, with assistance provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Special Operations Response Team, and the New Brunswick Police Department.

  • Luis Jaquez, 22, of New Brunswick, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Burglary through Forcible Entry, Theft, Possession of Burglary Tools, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, and Criminal Mischief.
  • Eric Rodriguez, 26, of New Brunswick, was arrested and charged with Burglary through Forcible Entry, Theft, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, and Criminal Mischief.
  • Jose Taveras, 29, of New Brunswick, was charged with Burglary through Forcible Entry, Theft, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, and Criminal Mischief.
  • Fernando Azcona, 27, of Hightstown, was charged with Burglary through Forcible Entry, Theft, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, and Criminal Mischief.

Jaquez and Rodriguez were remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a detention hearing to be scheduled in Superior Court in New Brunswick. Taveras and Azcona remain at large.

 “The quick results of this ongoing investigation show our officers’ commitment to protecting our community, apprehending suspects, and intercepting stolen prescription medications, which help to feed the drug epidemic that persists in New Jersey,” said Chief Geist. “The collaboration of Middlesex Police Officers Marczak and Gurell, Detective Scott Mulford, the other members of our Investigations Division, and police agencies across three counties made these arrests possible. I commend their efforts and those made by our active and visible patrol force every day in Middlesex Borough.”

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against defendants are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
