On June 19, 2022 at 1:11 pm, the Middlesex Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a person on a “bike” was struck by a vehicle on NJS 28 (Bound Brook Road) at Fairfield Avenue. Patrol officers arrived on location, closed the roadway between Clay Avenue and Stephenson Avenue, and began speaking with the involved drivers and witnesses. The driver of a Suzuki motorcycle, identified as Ramon Sanchez, 28, of Dunellen, NJ, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by the Middlesex Borough Rescue Squad under the care of a Flight Nurse and Flight Medic from the New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR helicopter. While at the hospital, Mr. Sanchez succumbed to his injuries. The Middlesex Police Department Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team responded. The investigation revealed that Mr. Sanchez was traveling west on Bound Brook Road and struck a Hyundai Tucson, which was entering onto NJS 28 from Fairfield Avenue. The Middlesex Fire Department responded and established a landing zone at Mountain View Park for the NJSP helicopter. The Middlesex Fire Department Fire Police assisted the NJ DOT with the road closure until the vehicles were removed.
